Wobbler Room

The Wobbler room, at First Steps Creche & Preschool, caters for 1 to 2 year old children. This is such an important stage in a child’s development, when they are really exploring their environment with intent! Everything is exciting for them, from filling and emptying, throwing balls, running fast, and dancing and singing!

First Steps

At this stage, children will begin to take first steps, further expanding their experiences in their environment! Then, they can practice climbing, kicking a ball, or using a ride along. They are becoming more adept at posting shapes, hammering pegs, making large, knobbed jigsaws etc. They also begin to show great interest in painting, playdough, water and sand. They enjoy the texture and the freedom to explore these materials.

First Words

We start seeing their memory and concentration becoming stronger, when they remember familiar songs, rhymes and stories, and games. At this age also, we hear the first words emerging. This is so exciting, to see this progress in a child's ability to communicate with others. They recognise peers and enjoying playing parallel to them, dancing or climbing or having small interactions, laughing and giggling!

Milestones

In the Wobbler room the main milestones that children will typically reach include various domains Including physical, cognitive, social and language development.

Physical

The physical development milestones, include taking their first steps, to becoming Steady on their feet, climbing up and down by 18 months and using fine motor skills such as stacking blocks, turning pages in a book, and using a spoon or cup with more control.

Cognitive

The Cognitive development milestones, include problem solving such as exploring their environment and solve simple problems like figuring out how to reach a toy, children also learn imitation at this stage, they do this by imitating actions of other children or adults.

Social

The social development milestones include, Parallel play, playing alongside other children without direct interaction, but showing interest in what others are doing, Children will also start to express a wide range of emotions.

Language

Language development is an important stage for children at this age. At this stage children will learn to say their first words at around 12 months old, by 18 months children may have a vocabulary of a range of different words, by 2 years old children will begin to combine words into simple phrases.
