Mission Statement
We believe that every child, family, and member of staff matters and at First Steps Creche and Preschool we work hard to create a place where we can all learn and grow together.
Ethos of Service
Our wish for each child is that you grow into confident capable young people who are not afraid to express yourselves and participate to the best of your ability.
A Little History
First Steps Crèche and Preschool began as a small but vital service in the heart of the Ballybeg community, born out of a collective need for essential childcare and early education facilities.

Dedicated Support
In addition to our facilities, we are also incredibly proud of our team. From our experienced room leaders to the new faces who bring fresh ideas and energy, our staff are dedicated to supporting each child’s individual needs. The longevity of our staff is a testament to the positive work environment we foster, and we’re excited to see long-time staff members now welcoming the children of previous generations!
Community
Our community connections remain a cornerstone of our philosophy. First Steps Crèche has built strong relationships with local organisations such as Barnardos, St. Saviours, and others. We value the opportunity to welcome visitors from the community to engage with the children, whether it’s through visits from the Community GardaÃ, Fire Brigade, or local libraries and services.
Awards
We’re also proud of the awards and recognition we’ve received, such as the Child and Youth Participation Award from Túsla, recognising our commitment to ensuring that the children at First Steps have a voice. Our programs—such as our menu review, First Aid training, and child-led initiatives—are just a few examples of how we empower children to participate in shaping their environment.
Additionally, we’re thrilled to have won an Amber Flag for promoting mental health and wellbeing, which reflects our ongoing commitment to the emotional and social wellbeing of everyone at First Steps.
